So SXSW is just around the corner and I personally want to be the first one to welcome all you travelers to Austin. After this week, you’ll understand why they call us the music capital of the US, trust me. Of course an important part to any trip is the food. I personally enjoy going to local places when I travel and trying out what they have, makes me feel adventurous! :) Here are five great restaurants in Austin I highly recommend you try when you are here, and they also will not cost you a leg and an arm to eat at.

  1. Juan in a Million – You think you’ve had the best breakfast tacos, I’ll bet you’re not even close. Juan in a Million is a local Austin favorite, serving their famous “Don Juan” taco. They also serve amazing authentic Mexican food. I need to warn you though, if you decide to take on the Don Juan make sure you’re really hungry because it is a beast!
  2. Players – This is a good burger place right next to the University of Texas campus. Their burgers are pretty delicious and I would recommend trying their chicken fried steak. Also, they are open till 3am so if you get a craving after 6th street, just tell the taxi driver to take you to Players, he/she should know where it is!
  3. Uncle Billy’s Brewery – This restaurant is probably the closest to many of the SXSW activities. They have delicious barbecue and the best part is they brew their own beer.  Definitely worth trying for those beer enthusiasts. Follow their tweets: @UncleBillys.
  4. Dirty Martin’s Place – In my opinion, the best place to get a burger in Austin. They’ve been around for nearly 82 years and after you take a bite of one of their burgers you will know why. I wouldn’t really call it a hole-in-the-wall joint, but they’ve got a lot of tradition and prestige with their name.
  5. Rudy’s BBQ – IF YOU DON’T GO TO ANY OF THESE PLACES YOU NEED TO EAT HERE! Rudy’s is the best BBQ in Austin and they have some of the friendliest people you will ever meet. One of my alums from New York came to Texas and we decided to take him to Rudy’s; lets just say he was speechless. Also, Rudy’s is one of the cleanest restaurants in Austin. Follow their tweets: @rudysbbq.

Hope you have a great time at SXSW and again welcome to Austin, Texas!

I think that Pluckers Wing Bar should be added to this list. I suggest the Dr. Pepper wings and the 34oz Mother Plucker filled with Ziegenbock! If that ain’t Texas, I don’t know what is!

    Nice post!

    Your Top 2 = My Top 2

Players: We went there so much my freshman year that one of the managers, Ralph, still knows me by my high school nickname “Hooch” (that’s after 12 years!!)!

Glad you like it! That is awesome. Players is the best place to go after a football game!
